Summary
The W. Roy Wheeler Medallion for excellence in field ornithology was inaugurated by Bird Observers Club of Australia in 2005 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Club. In that year ten Medallions were awarded. The purpose was to honour individuals, whether amateur or professional, who are recognised as outstanding contributors to the field of ornithology in Australia and its territories. Roy Wheeler was a prominent member of the Club, holding executive office for 20 years, including as President 1951 - 1954.
