Summary
Roger Hilton was a mycologist who spent over 15 years as Plant Pathologist for the Rubber Institute of Malaysia where he made significant contributions to the control disease in plantations. In 1964 he became Lecturer in mycology at the University of Western Australia, retiring in 1987 as Senior Lecturer. During this time he was curator of the University's mycological herbarium: after his retirement these 3,000 voucher specimens were transferred to the Western Australian Herbarium. Hilton was known as an inspiring teacher. His research was wide-ranging and often involved extensive correspondence with mycologists in Australia and all over the world. Among his publications was the most substantial census of Western Australian macrofungi (Hilton 1982, 1988).
