Summary
The Harrie Massey Medal was instituted in 1990 by the Institute of Physics, United Kingdom, to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Australian Institute of Physics as a separate organisation. It is now awarded in alternate years and jointly by both Institutes. The award recognises contributions made by an Australian physicist working anywhere in the world or for work conducted in Australia, and by a member of either Institute. Harrie Massey, an Australian-born physicist who had a distinguished career in the United Kingdom, was President of the Physical Society from 1954 to 1956, and elected an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Physics in 1976.
