Summary
The Colony of South Australia was established as a province under the South Australia Act in 1834, and proclaimed as a colony in 1836 when the first Europeans arrived. Multiple nations of Indigenous Australian's were, and continue to live on the land proclaimed the Colony of South Australia. South Australia received self-governance in 1857 which led to the formation of a constitution and parliament. From 1863 until 1911 what is now known as the Northern Terriotory was under South Australian Control. In 1901 the Colony of South Australia became the State of South Australia as a result of federation.
