Summary
The Waterways Commission was a statutory authority established in 1976 to manage Western Australian waterways. In 1996 a number of water related government organisations were merged to form the Water and Rivers Commission (1996 - 2008). This merger saw the unification of the Hydrology and Groundwater Resources branch of the Department of Mineral and Energy, the Western Australian Water Resource Council and the Waterways Commission to form a single department.
