Summary
Keith Walker was a limnologist and expert on the ecology of river flood plains, including their hydrology and hydraulics, geomorphology and biota. He was Australia's most well-regarded authority of the Murray-Darling River system, and served on a number of expert panels that published key reports of the Murray Darling Basin Commission. In 1986 he co-founded the leading international journal on river research, Regulated rivers: research and management. Walker was also recognised internationally as a leading researcher on the ecology and taxonomy of freshwater mussels, publishing Ecology of freshwater mussels in Australia for the Australian Water Resources Council in 1981.
