Summary
Alan Andersen is internationally recognised as a leader in research on the global ecology of ant communities, looking at biogeography, systematics, behavioural dominance and functional composition in relation to environmental stress and disturbance. He also is interested in the ecology of tropical savannas, and the ecology and management of fire. For over 20 years he led the CSIRO Tropical Ecosystems Research Centre in Darwin and has been involved in a number of regional conservation initiatives.
