Summary

Judy West is a botanist whose research focuses on the systematics, biodiversity and biogeography particularly of the plant families Sapindaceae, Portulacaceae, Fabaceae, Caryophyllaceae. She held executive positions including as Director of the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research and as Head of Parks and Diversity Science for the Commonwealth Department of the Environment. West has played a key role in the development of policy related to the research, development and management of Australia's biological resources. She was instrumental in establishing Australian's Virtual Herbarium, an electronic database of plant information held in herbaria nation-wide.
