Summary
Bruce Webb was one of Australia's best known and highly respected mining geologists. He worked for a number of mining exploration companies, as a field geologist, in senior management positions, and as a Board member. As Director General of the Department of Mines and Energy, South Australia, he played a major role in the opening up of the Cooper Basin oil and gas field and the Olympic Dam ore body. He also served on a number of industry advisory councils. Webb was Chancellor of the University of Adelaide from 1998 to 2000. The Bruce Webb Medal for leadership on earth sciences is awarded by the Geological Society of Australia.
