Summary
Greg Constable is an agronomist and plant breeder who works with the principles of genetic modification to produce cotton species that have improved yield, pest resistance and water efficiency. Constable was the Director of the CRC for Sustainable Cotton Production between 1993-1999. In 2010 Constable played a key role in the establishment of the International Cotton Genome Initiative.

Constable has been awarded the following CSIRO medals:
2003 - CSIRO Chairman's Medal for Science and Engineering Excellence (jointly with Danny Llewellyn and colleagues) for the development and delivery of genetically modified insect- and herbicide-resistant varieties for the Australian cotton industry;
2011 - CSIRO Chairman's Medal for Science and Engineering Excellence as leader of the Cotton Breeding and Biotechnology Team (with Danny Llewellyn, Peter Reid and colleagues) for the major impact achieved on Australia's cotton production due to the breeding and deployment of the new cotton variety Sicot71BRF
2015 - CSIRO Medal for Lifetime Achievement for a distinguished career in CSIRO's cotton breeding program which was instrumental to the development of varieties which have made the Australian cotton industry the most efficient producer of cotton in the world.
