Summary
Vicki Harriott was widely-known for her research on reef coral larval recruitment, and coral reef ecology. Her interests ranged from holothurian reproduction and population ecology, to factors regulating coral reefs at their latitudinal limits, coral-algal interactions, and threats to reef communities: she was among the first to recognise the significance of coral bleaching. She was equally well-known for her extensive work in marine education. Harriott joined the School of Environmental Science and Management at the Southern Cross University in 1990, ultimately being promoted to Associate Professor. From 2000 to 2003 she was Program Leader for the Education and Communication Section of the CRC Reef Research Centre at James Cook University. In 2009 Reef no. 15-070 in the Great Barrier Reef was named the Vicki Harriott Reef.
