Summary
Lilian Smairl undertook nursing training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. She spent twelve years as staff nurse at Parramatta district hospital before enlisting in the Queen Alexandra Royal Naval Nursing Service while visiting England. Smairl took part in the Dunkirk evacuation as well as serving on hospital ships such as the Vasna.
