Summary
Richard V. Woods investigated the problem of productivity decrease in forest plantations on second rotation in South Australia during the 1970s. He showed that it could be largely prevented by appropriate weed control and fertilisation and the use of genetically improved stock from seed orchards. He reported on this work in his 1976 publication, Early silviculture for upgrading productivity on marginal Pinus radiata sites in the south-eastern region of South Australia.
