Summary
R. N. McCulloch studied chemical repellents and established that phthalates were effective against scrub mites and that dibutyl phthalates were more persistent. CSR-Chemicals produced dibutyl phthlate from about 1944, substantially reducing the incidence of scrub typhus among Australian soldiers.
