Summary
William Howard H. Lewis ran a bicycle business in Melbourne from about 1890 to 1897. He then joined Harley Tarrant and together they made the first workable petrol-driven car in Australia in 1901. Tarrant's became a proprietary company in 1907, with Lewis as managing director and as chairman of directors from 1920.
