Summary
M. Freer did pioneer work in the 1950s at Werribee in Victoria, which demonstrated the overriding importance of stocking rate, rather than grazing system, as the major determinant of animal productivity per hectare.
In 2003 Freer was awarded the CSIRO Medal for Lifetime Achievement for his pioneering work in grazing systems science in Australia and its application to help farmers manage their flocks and herds.
