Summary

Bill Bradfield, OBE BSc BE DPhil FIEAust, was Assistant Director-General of the Department of Civil Aviation Melbourne (1957-1968) and Civil Aviation Adviser to Papua New Guinea from 1973 to 1976. In Australia, he had a major role in the design of extensions to Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney; Essendon Airport, Melbourne; and the master planning of Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne. Internationally, through his role with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), he had major roles in developing international standards for aircraft and airports.

In recognition of his distinguished engineering career and his service to aviation, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1966; awarded the Edward Warner Award by the International Civil Aviation Organisation in 1991; as well as receiving other awards for his service overseas and in Australia.
