Summary
Raymond Akhurst has been at CSIRO Entomology since 1970. Early in his career he worked on a method of making female Sirex wasps sterile by infecting them with a parasitic nematode. His current interest is studying the mechanisms of resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis, a project he has lead since 1999. Akhurst is the Deputy Program Leader of the Biotechnology section, and has full financial and personnel control of the Natural Biopesticides sub-program. He is also Chair of the Australian Society for Microbiology Foundation Committee and is a member of several editorial boards.
