Born Britain, 1935. Formerly program leader, CSIRO Division of Wildlife and Rangelands Research, Deniliquin; Head, CSIRO Tropical Forest Research Centre, Atherton 1987-93; teamed up with Jiro Kikkawa (q.v.) in the early 1990s to promote the formation of a Cooperative Research Centre for Tropical Rainforest Ecology and Management. Founded North Queensland branch of RAOU. President, Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union 1998- . Co-author of Our Rainforests and the Issues (1992).
