Summary

Ralph Basden was Principal of Newcastle Technical College 1940-1959 and University Warden of Newcastle University College 1951-1959. His scientific research was concerned with the chemistry of the excretions of insects which live on eucalyptus trees. He is commemorated by a portrait by Joshua Smith and the Basden Theatre lecture theatre at the University of Newcastle.
