Summary
Phil Silberstein was a mathematician who between 1939 and 1960 worked at the Aeronautical Research Laboratory on properties and elasticity of aircraft materials and vibrations of engines and propellers. He wrote a large number of reports stemming from this work. On moving to the University of Western Australia in 1960 his focus changed to pure mathematics. For 20 years until retiring in 1985 he was Professor of Mathematics.
