Summary
Josef Lederer was the foundation professor of optometry, University of New South Wales 1976-1982. He won international acclaim for his work with the rehabilitation of partially sighted people, particularly for his designs for low vision aids.
Details
Born Vienna, 1921. Emigrated to Australia 1939. Educated Sydney Technical College (optometry) and University of Sydney (physiology). Sydney Technical College 1945-50, lecturer, NSW University of Technology (later University of New South Wales) 1951-59, associate professor 1959-76, foundation professor of optometry 1976-82. Honoured by the Australian Optometrical Association's New South Wales Division, who have set up the Lederer Award for Excellence in Optometry.
