John Clark joined his father's firm of accountants and merchants after an unsuccessful attempt to operate as an assayer. He was editor of the "Register" 1870-1878.

Tried unsuccessfully to operate as an assayer; joined his father's firm of accountants and merchants; a proprietor of the "Register" from 1865 and its editor 1870-78. Active in the formation of the Adelaide Philosophical Society and the South Australian Institute.
