Summary
Allan McEvey was Curator of birds at the National Museum of Victoria from 1955 for almost 30 years. He was interested in the relationship between ornithology and art and published material on the art of John Cotton, John William Lewin and John Gould.

Born Rutherglen, Victoria, 5 September 1919. Died 14 December 1996. Educated University of Melbourne. Royal Australian Air Force during World War II; school teacher, Victoria; Curator of Ornithology, National Museum of Victoria 1955 for almost 30 years, developing the avian osteological collection to be one of the best in the world, and caring for the H.L. White collection of bird skins and eggs. Fellow, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1980. Played a key role in the establishment of the Society of Wildlife Artists; President, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1968-69; first Chairman, RAOU Records Appraisal Committee; member, with D.L. Serventy, of the RAOU Review Committee in 1969, the recommendations of which ushered in the modern era for the RAOU.
