Julian Ford was a chemist with the Shell Oil Company of Australia 1956-1960 before joining the Western Australian Education Department, Technical Education Division in 1960. He joined the Western Australian Institute of Technology in 1968.

Born Perth, 3 November 1932. Died 31 January 1987. Educated University of Western Australia (BSc 1955, PhD 1983). Chemist, WA Branch, Shell Oil Company of Australia 1956-57, Deputy chief chemist 1957-60; lecturer in chemistry, Technical Education Division, Education Department of Western Australia 1960-63; lecturer in physical chemistry, Perth Technical College 1963-68; lecturer in physical chemistry, Western Australian Institute of Technology 1968-78; associate lecturer, Biology Department, Western Australian Institute of Technology 1978-87. Honorary Associate, Western Australian Museum 1963-87. Keen ornithologist, with interests in speciation, hybridisation, relationships, areas of origin, morphometrics, distribution and identification of Australian birds.
