Born United States of America (probably in Buffalo, New York), 1855. Died Melbourne, 13 May 1936. Educated Boston University (ChB 1884, MD 1885). First resident medical officer, Melbourne Homeopathic Hospital (at one stage nicknamed 'Dr Bouton's Hospital') from 1885, surgeon from 1891, then senior surgeon, president of the board of management 1918-34.
