Summary
The Royal Australian Chemical Institute's Division of Medicinal and Agricultural Chemistry was established in May 1983 and its first meeting was held in October. The push for a new division came from the RACI Division of Physical Chemistry after it held the very successful First Australian Conference on Molecular Design and Structure-Activity Relationships (Victorian College of Pharmacy, May 1981). The main objective of the Division of Medicinal and Agricultural Chemistry was to promote and establish interactions between chemists and others interested in the development of new biologically-active agents, including drugs, pesticides and other agricultural and veterinary products. In 1989 the Division was renamed the Biomolecular Chemistry Division.
