The Australian Society of Plant Physiologists was established in 1958. The Society aimed to advance the science of plant physiology. The Society presented the Peter Goldacre Medal (from 1965) recognising contributions in plant physiology by young researchers within ten years of completing their PhD. It also invites eminent plant scientists to present lectures named in honour of it first two Presidents: J. G. Wood and R. N. Robertson.
