The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Coastal Zone, Estuary and Waterway Management (the Coastal CRC) was established in July 1999. It received funding for a period of seven years. In their Web site, June 2002, the CRC states that "the Coastal CRC exists to improve the health of Australia's coastal waterways."
