In April 1992, the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Molecular Engineering and Technology: Sensing and Diagnostic Technologies was established. The CRC conducted research into areas such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular engineering and electronics. The CRC ceased operations in 1998.
