Summary

The West Footscray Petrochemicals Complex was established in 1977 by Hydrocarbon Products Pty. Ltd. - a joint venture between BHP and Monsanto. The complex was one of the first in Australia to use a new process which permitted the alkylation of benzene with dilute ethylene gas.
