Summary
Plessey Australia Pty Ltd worked with the Wood Technology Division of the Forestry Commission of New South Wales to produce the 'Computermatic' machine stress grader which became widely used in Australia and overseas. Over the years they broadened their area of expertise and went on to investigate reception of high quality aerial reconnaissance pictures and ship-board sonar system. Plessey Australia Pty Ltd was eventually taken over by GEC Marconi Systems, a subsidiary of GEC Marconi (UK) and continues to produce piezoelectric ceramics, mainly for military use such as in underwater acoustic detection devices.
