Consolidated Zinc Pty Ltd was established in 1949 when the Imperial Smelting Corporation and the Zinc Corporation Limited merged to form one company. Initially it treated zinc bearing tailings but soon branched into mining. In 1962 a merger took place between Consolidated Zinc and the Rio Tinto Company, forming Conzinc Riotinto of Australia (CRA).
