Summary
The Department of the Environment and Heritage, also known as Environment Australia, replaced the Department of the Environment on October 21, 1998. The Department controls agencies such as the Bureau of Meteorology, Antarctic Division, Australian Heritage Commission and Environmental Protection Authority.
From their website 21 July 2000: 'The goals of the Department are to develop, in the national interest, a proper recognition of environmental, social and related economic values in government decision-making and activities; and to improve the quality of the decision-making process, program delivery and communication by ensuring that Government has available to it reliable information and advice and efficient delivery mechanisms.'
The Department of Environment of Heritage is registered with the Australian Taxation Office and has the ABN: 34 190 894 98
