Summary
In July 1975 the Australian National Railways Commission took control of the functions previously undertaken by the Commonwealth Railway Commissioner. The Commission traded under the name Australian National. A division occurred in the Commission in 1997, the freight business sold to Australian Southern Railroad and the passenger service to Great Southern Railway.
