- Abstract
This paper deals with the testing of bituminous materials whose suitability as pipe coatings is to be ascertained. Standard methods of testing are discussed, and methods evolved to obtain data not available from standard methods are described, and some results given. The most important of these is the determination of the rate of absorption of water by the material. The application of the results of this research to the practice of pipe coating is outlined. Full details of methods of testing, and a discussion of a rational method of determining the economical thickness of coating, are appended.
