Abstract

In this paper a review is made of analytical and experimental investigations of the behaviour of prestressed concrete beams under repeated loadings. A qualitative assessment of fatigue behaviour for flexural loading conditions is developed on the bases of this review and possible significant factors for shear loading conditions are determined from results for recent static shear tests. Simple conservative methods are proposed for estimations of fatigue strength and the amount of web reinforcement required to ensure that after a period of repeated loading a beam can still develop its full static flexural capacity.
The paper contains 38 references, and a tabulated summary of tests details, results and conclusions for 27 different experimental investigations of fatigue behaviour.
