The following notes refer to the preservation of hand dressed, hard-wood poles used for carrying electric cables. They describe a method of treating poles on erection by poisoning the surrounding soil, adopted by the Electricity Department of the Municipal Council of Sydney. Some of the results obtained by its use are also described.
