Summary

Arndell Lewis graduated from the University of Tasmania. He practised as a lawyer but was interested in geology and was a Lecturer (and sometime Acting Professor) in Geology at the University of Tasmania 1926-1931. Lewis made a substantial contribution to the geology of Tasmania, publishing numerous papers in the Papers and proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania. His book The geology of the Hobart district was published posthumously in 1946. He was active in the Royal Society of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Field Naturalists Club, and a long-term Trustee of the Tasmanian Museum, Art Gallery and Botanic Gardens.
