Summary
Briony Forbes is a biochemist whose research focuses on protein chemistry, growth factor signalling and protein structure/function. In particular she works on insulin and insulin-like growth factors, which play a major role in cancer, aging, neuronal disease, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. After postdoctoral studies at the University of Adelaide and the CSIRO Division of Human Nutrition, she joined the University. In 2013 she was appointed Professor of Medical Biochemistry at Flinders University, where she is now Deputy Director, Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (Research Education and Development). Forbes is active in the Australian Society of Biochemical and Molecular Biology, being Secretary from 2016 to 2020. In 2025 she became an Honorary Fellow of the Society.
