Summary

Peter Crawford's early career in chemical research was followed by senior international and Australian government roles in the areas of science, environment, and water management. He led the OECD program in Paris on international chemicals control and on his return to Australia headed the NSW Pollution Control Commission, then Sydney Water and, later, the NSW Healthy Rivers Commission. He also had periods as CEO of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in South Australia and as CEO of the Australian defence and communications company AWA Ltd. He served as Chair of the NSW Water Audit, 1984; Chair of National Energy Roundtable, 1988; Member, Commonwealth Secretariat Panel on Restructuring the Public Sector of South Africa, 1995; and as advisor to the Royal Commission into the NSW Police Service (1995-97). In his late career he undertook post graduate study in politics, leading to a book on water management in Australia, Japan and China.
