Summary
Clive Burrett was a palaeontologist widely known for his research on conodonts of the Ordovician. He was a leader in the discovery of this fauna in the limestones in Tasmania, often in difficult to access places. In 1979 he described the genus Tasmanognathus, the first conodont published from Tasmania. Burrett was also interested in tectonics, particularly of Asian regions. He produced the first terrane analysis of Eurasia. For over 30 years he taught geology at the University of Tasmania, being consistently rated as an exceptions teacher. Between 2003 and 2014, he was a key researcher in several projects in the University's Centre for Ore Deposit and Earth Sciences, examining the tectonic and metallogenic evolution of Southeast Asia. Burrett retired from the University in 2007, moving to Thailand where he was for some years Honorary researcher at the Palaeontological Research and Education Centre, Mahasarakham University. He was active in the Geological Society of Australia, chairing the Tasmanian Division from 19897 to 1900, and becoming a Distinguished Fellow of the Society in 2010.
