Summary
Tom van Gerwen was an entomologist who started working at the CSIRO Division of Entomology in 1956, initially researching blowfly populations. He later worked on Oncopera moths, and on the blowfly Lucilia cuprina. After 35 years with the Division van Gerwen moved to the Grain Research Laboratory. In 1998 van Gerwen became Co-ordinator of the volunteer scheme for the Australian National Insect Collection, a role he held for 27 years.
