Summary
The Australian Orchid Foundation, founded in 1976, is a voluntary organisation dedicated to the promotion of orchids. Membership is open to anyone interested in these plants from a scientific or cultural point of view. Aims of the Foundation are: to preserve, protect, promote, propagate, nurture and cultivate all orchids, both species and hybrids; to promote and support research into orchids; to educate the public about orchids. Publications produced by the Foundation include a wide range of books and the journal Australian orchid research, published since 1989. The Seed and Protocorm Bank is maintained to promote and facilitate the propagation and conservation of orchid species. Grants to support research into orchids may be made by the Foundation. Since 1987 the Award of Honour has been presented in recognition of significant achievement in advancing knowledge of Australian orchids.
