Summary
Bronwyn Fox is the Chief Scientist of CSIRO, and an internationally recognised expert on carbon fibre and composite materials. She was the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Enterprise at Swinburne University of Technology, 2020-2021, and the founding Director of the University's Manufacturing Futures Research Institute, 2016 - 2020. The Institute supports the transition of Australia's industries into Industry 4.0 - the fourth industrial revolution.
Prior to joining Swinburne, Fox was the founding Research Director of the internationally recognised Carbon Nexus facility at Deakin University, the centrepiece of a $100 million precinct focused on advanced fibre technology. Over a period of 15 years, she successfully drove the University's carbon fibre and composite strategic research vision. She joined Deakin at a time when resources and infrastructure were very limited and oversaw the growth of her team from one person into a vibrant multidisciplinary team of over 30 students, scientists and research engineers. Under her direction, the team established an excellent global reputation for conducting industrially relevant research. She has delivered over $14M of industry focussed projects relevant to carbon fibre and composite materials and developed relationships with many longstanding and returning industry partners from around the world.
Fox completed a PhD in Engineering at the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) at The University of Melbourne. She was Chair of the Victorian Division of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering; a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE); a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (FRACI), and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
