Summary
Lori Lach is an entomologist who focuses on ecological research in the areas of social insect ecology, particularly invasive ants, ant-plant interactions, and pollination. After working in the U.S.A., Kenya and Mauritius, she came to Australia in 2005 to work on biological invasions and conservation in an urban context. Current research programs include Yellow Crazy Ant eradication, developing environmental DNA (eDNA) for the detection of invasive ants, environmental stressors on native bees, and effects of drought on herbivory. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Species Survival Commission Ant Specialist Group and the National Exotic Invasive Ant Scientific Advisory Group. Lach joined the James Cook University (JCU) in 2013 to work on the ecological effects of bee disease. She is now Professor and Deputy Director of the Australian Research Council Plant Biosecurity Training Centre at JCU. For her research she has received the Froggatt Award (jointly) from the Invasive Species Council and the Ian Mackerras Medal of the Australian Entomological Society.
