Summary
The Zillman Medal has been awarded biennially (in odd-numbered years) by the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society since 2015. It was formerly known as the Distinguished Research Award. The Medal recognises scientists in their mature years, most of whose work has been conducted in Australia, and who have made significant contributions with a record of innovative and transformative research. Consideration s also given to service to, and promotion of, the Society. John Zillman is one of Australia's most distinguished meteorologists. He was Director of the Bureau of Meteorology from 1978 to 2003, and Chairman of the Society's predecessor, the Royal Meteorological Society Australian Branch, from 1977 to 1978.
