Summary
The Keith Sutherland Award was inaugurated in 1981 by the Australian Museum, of which Sutherland was a trustee (and later President of trustees) between 1966 and 1974. Having been co-sponsor for three years, the Malacological Society of Australia assumed full responsibility for the Award from 1997. The purpose of the Award was to increase knowledge of Australian molluscs by supporting research into their taxonomy and whole-animal biology, with lesser emphasis on physiology and ecology. Recipients were graduate students and others undertaking such research. In the first 15 years, over 40 projects were funded, resulting in more that 50 publications. In recent years the Award has been referred to as the Mollusc Research Grants.
