Summary
Alberto Albani is a geomorphologist whose interests focus on Foraminifera particularly of the Pleistocene era. After completing his degree at the University of Florence, Italy, he joined the University of New South Wales in 1961. Here he continued his work on the foraminiferal ecology and sedimentology of coastal environments, in particular the Pleistocene drainage patterns and current distribution and behaviour of unconsolidated sediment in river estuaries. This led to the development of a methodology for assessing coastal stress conditions, and further, to improved coastal management guidelines. Albani devised an interactive catalogue of Foraminifera of the south west Pacific region.
