Summary
Helen Horton is a naturalist and enthusiastic promoter of the natural history of Queensland. She has published widely, including the books Around Mt Isa: a guide to the flora and fauna (1976) and A Brisbane bushland; the history and natural history of Enoggera Reservoir and its environs (2002), as well as giving talks and making radio broadcasts. Her interests lie principally with birds. She collected recordings of several hundred bird calls which were made available on CD. With her husband Bill she participated in Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme. Horton has been active in executive roles at the Queensland Naturalists' Club, being President in 1988 and 1999. For nearly 30 years she edited the Club's newsletter QNC news. She has also worked on the preparation of an index for the Club's publications. Horton is a member of the Society for Growing Australian Plants, Queensland Ornithological Society and the Moreton Island Protection Committee.
